The other day, I was sympathising with a friend, as one does, over a recent heated exchange she had endured in her neighbourhood WhatsApp group (an alternate title for this article could have been 'Hell is neighbourhood WhatsApp groups', but that genre is
Another excellent piece of work that gets you thinking. Some of us are old enough to remember when computers first came out & we wrote our first programs & were blown away at the potential of what it could do. It was basic at the time because of hardware limitations but you knew time would bring advanced chip structures, smaller, faster just what was needed to develop advanced AI. And advanced AI will save the world if it were free from human corruption & control. Well that's what I thought when I was 13. Lol. But you're right, it comes at a cost, maybe we should save a day a week where we all switch everything off, unplug from the grid & go live in a cave/woods, weave hemp baskets, smoke hemp baskets and sing songs round a camp fire.
Great dot joining again Miri. AI used to mean Artificial Insemination which was at least a physical procedure albeit an unnatural one. Perhaps Artificial Intelligence can be interpreted as the Artificial Insemination of ideas, ideologies and idiosyncrasies into a population rendered highly fertile by the many inverted cabal solutions already imposed on them.
I saw a fascinating breakdown of the film Titanic by Owen Benjamin, and that its real message was how American society came to be corrupted by usury. As well as the striking number of symbols throughout the film to back up this theory, it chimed with a feeling I always had about that film that the plot didn't really work. I now see of course that the reason for that was cos there were two messages being told through the same story. Some films just get made so they can have their little game. And how about this monologue from thirty years ago from Terminator II (same director of course)
'Sarah Connor: [voiceover] Watching John with the machine, it was suddenly so clear. The terminator would never stop. It would never leave him, and it would never hurt him, never shout at him, or get drunk and hit him, or say it was too busy to spend time with him. It would always be there. And it would die to protect him. Of all the would-be fathers who came and went over the years, this thing, this machine, was the only one who measured up. In an insane world, it was the sanest choice."
I'm not so sure that AI can create art. Art is often characterised by its ability to evoke thought or feeling, provoke interpretation or inspire change. To me, art is something that makes you see the world -- and yourself -- in a new, creative way. Because the word is so encompassing, what constitutes "art" is subjective and can vary greatly across cultures, individuals and time periods. AI can mimic art but what it produces is craft, however original that might be.
I have never engaged with ChatGPT, nor would I wish to. It seems downright creepy. And there’s a sinister implication involved i.e. If I am conversing with nobody at all, what does that say about me? I reckon that talking to nobody makes ME nobody.
The point being that if you talk to a machine then you are not talking to a consciousness. There is no sense of reciprocal interaction. It’s like masturbating to porn. Indeed, it’s worse since at least with porn there WERE actual people in these films.
Sagacious comments here Miri. Whilst AI has some good uses it also has malevolent capacities as you demonstrate. The Moslem lady you mention could be correct. Some who read the apocryphal books not included in the current Bibles believe that supernatural beings (non human) have been instrumental in technology advances of different kinds.

Thanks acki, and your "digital detox day" is a phenomenal idea!
"They'll" be doing the unplugging, you won't have to.

Thanks Kevin, I'll have to check Owen's theory out, he always has an interesting take.
And yes, that monologue now seems particularly chillingly prescient.
yes, here it is

So far, what I've seen of AI "art" looks very much like AI "art". Actually, I cannot stand it.

As I have said to some of my friends: Elon is Trump’s Svengali.
He certainly seemed to love his baphomet outfit for hallowe'en.
I like where you took that idea and I agree with your Muslim friend re the Jinn.
Svengali. What is with this constant truncation?
